Father of the Fatherless

In the midst of all the presidential choice despair, Cities4Life quietly goes on being a voice for the voiceless and spreading the hope and optimism of the Gospel at local abortion centers. A group of Cities4Life volunteers gathered Saturday to collect and organize a storage unit filled to the brim with supplies for baby showers for the moms who choose life.

One of the Shower leaders called me and asked if I could use a double stroller for one of the moms I work with. Cities4Life teams are not only on the abortion center sidewalks urging mamas to save their babies, but follow them for as long as they will allow, helping as able. We have a huge network of supporters and have been able to help these moms with baby supplies, food, spiritual mentorship, cars, furniture, financial aid and counseling, and even marriages between couples who chose commitment over death to the fruit of their union. This is only a partial list.

"A double stroller? I don't know. I will get back to you."

Busy with painting our house, I didn't canvas the moms I work with immediately, though I intended to do so this week. Yesterday afternoon, one of my favorite moms texted me:
"Do you maybe know of a double stroller I can buy that is not too expensive? I don't think I can carry the baby and my other little one."

Yes, we have a double stroller. Free of charge. God just sent us one before the need was even voiced.

Now for the record, when I say God sent the stroller, I don't mean He literally tossed it down from Heaven. God often uses willing people to be His hands and feet on earth. I have seen it time and time again that someone offers me something that they hope will be useful, and almost immediately the need for that very item is expressed by one of the moms!

This gives me so much hope! God knows our needs. He loves us and when we make the right choices for Him and for His kingdom, He often meets those needs with lavish abundance. He is our Heavenly Father, and the Bible reminds us that If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Luke 11:11

Our Father longs to gather us to Him, to protect us, provide for us, guide us, and walk in complete fellowship and union with us. I really cannot imagine why. We are so wayward and flawed. Still, God delights in redeeming the irredeemable. No one is outside His power or desire to save.

To that end, my Cities4Life team will gather on the sidewalks of Charlotte's busiest abortion center this morning. Every day it is open, we have team members there speaking life, speaking of the love of our Father who would shower us with His blessings if only we would stretch our arms out in response to His call.

If you are dismayed by this election season and overcome by pessimism for our future, nothing is more hopeful than new life! Join us this morning and watch the power of God at work in the one of the darkest places on the planet. To be a part of this wonderful ministry, please go to charlotte.cities4life.org.

Psalm 68:5

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

John 14:9-11

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

Isaiah 64:8

But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
