I think we all love the New Year. Everyone loves new beginnings, clean slates, fresh chances to make everything right. I will eat better, sleep better, love better, pray better, live better...all will be new and different this time! This year I will be patient, gentle, considerate, generous, always kind, always forgiving....
This year will be different....
Maybe. But if all of the other years are any indication, probably only for about the first ten minutes.
That's why I long ago stopped making New Year Resolutions. Except one. I hereby resolve that I need Jesus more than ever. This is really less a resolution than a fact. All I have to do is look at the list of all the things I would love to happen this new year that I have always wanted to happen for a half century of New Years to know just how factual that fact really is!
Still, there is no doubt -- this New Year more than ever I need Jesus. While not exactly a resolution, it is not a bad realization. In my case, it is vital. It allows me to rest assured that I am in the very best place I could be for 2014 if transformation is truly my desire. God makes all things new, and nothing is impossible for God. I will make that fact a resolution:
This year, I resolve to let Him!

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” (Revelation 21:5 ESV)
