Resist the Devil

Since the forecast was for thunderstorms, I stayed in most of the day working on my third book in my horse series. It was maddening that it never thunder-stormed....I could have kayaked! Still, I disappeared in my world of horses, and was lost in joy. It was not a bad way to spend the day. When I came up for air, some 5,000 words later, I thought, "I love to write." I also thought, "I want a horse." I haven't thought that so keenly for fifty years. But I do. I want a horse. I have always wanted a horse. Maybe I need a horse.

One of the women I counsel, who chose abortion over life, and now deeply regrets it, sent me a text at 6 a.m.  She had been having terrible nightmares. She was frightened. I told her how I had nightmares my whole life, and stopped them by saying, "Jesus is Lord" in my dreams. The nightmares almost completely vanished. If Satan discovers that his tactics drive us closer to God rather than further, he has no reason to continue.

But they shouldn't be called "nightmares." Mares are horses, and horses are wonderful.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
