Train Yourself for Godliness

I am ready to tear up the streets in my compression anti-clot, anti-swelling garb. Since I also have a mouth-drying anti-nausea patch behind my ear, I need to wear my beltpack with a water bottle pouch. I bet all the neighbors are peeking from behind their curtains, wondering if the surgeons removed more than just my breast.

I went on three separate walks, totally 4 miles. Not bad for one day after major surgery! My liposuctioned thighs, harvested of their fat for new duties in my reconstructed breast hurt unless I stay active. After my two hour nap, standing up was not for the faint of heart. But within a minute of walking around, the pain dissipates.

Strange that the more I use the body parts that are healing, the better I feel.  This fact is true in physical healing, and in spiritual healing. All of us are damaged spiritually. All of us sin, and in doing so, slam the door on a proper relationship with God. The only path to healing is first sorrow over how we have grieved God, and then to use our body and mind vigorously in step with Him. Our eyes should be constantly seeking Him, our lips constantly speaking of Him, our ears constantly listening to His word, and our steps following Him. Only then does the pain of our separation from Him dissipate and healing begins.

I never expected to feel this good one day from major surgery!

1 Timothy 4:8

For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; ...

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
