Sweet Counsel in the Ways of God

Christians who isolate themselves and walk alone, are very liable to grow drowsy. Hold Christian company, and you will be kept wakeful by it, and refreshed and encouraged to make quicker progress in the road to heaven. But as you thus take "sweet counsel" with others in the ways of God, take care that the theme of your converse is the Lord Jesus. Let the eye of faith be constantly looking unto him; let your heart be full of him; let your lips speak of his worth.
-Charles Spurgeon

I join other faithful Christians this morning on the sidewalk of the abortion center. We will stand with the hope and promises of God and my prayer is that God’s love will beckon every one we speak with or who sees us there this chilly morning. Our goal is not to shame, not to judge, not to condemn. Our goal is to share the truth and hope we have in Jesus. Our goal is to help the women streaming in by the dozens NOT to desire the death of their child but to understand the sacred, intrinsic worth of every human being, born and unborn.

And if we are not successful in convincing those women that their child is precious, we are there to pray and mourn the lonely death of little babies who will not ever know the beauty of this world. At least someone will acknowledge that they had value and worth and their death does not pass unnoticed.

It is a sad and tragic place on the sidewalks of an abortion center. However, it is also a place where God’s people gather and where God’s miracles are the most magnificent because they illuminate such a great darkness.

As Charles Spurgeon said in the opening quote, being in sweet counsel with others in the way of God can light the path on the road to heaven. The enemy of our souls thrives in the darkness so I choose to be light.

We covet your prayers.
