On One Side- Hope, Life, Redemption...On the Other, Hopelessness, and Loss of Innocent Life

I spent the weekend watching the joy of yet another woman choose life right at the brink of her child’s destruction. She was so grateful to Cities4Life and our partner ministry, Monroe Help Pregnancy Center  If only we could have reached her sooner, she may not have had such a difficult path before her. This was a woman who didn’t want to abort and desperately needed to talk to voices urging her to consider life and the help we could offer. Sadly, the “prochoice” group blocked her from talking with us and she nearly lost her baby as a result

The photo above is of a Charlotte Observer reporter talking to a “prochoice” escort who is clearly pointing at me and giving the reporter an earful. I could be missing something, but I suspect he is not extolling my virtues. The reporter told me he wanted to write a ‘fair and balanced story’. I told him I was happy to hear that since most reporters that come out don’t talk to us at all or only minimally. They predominately talk with the “pro-choice” group. The reporter spent maybe a half hour talking to us...and two hours or so with the “prochoice” crowd.

Later, I saw the article. There was a quote from the abortion center director who had apparently been interviewed. The Cities4life director, who was there on the sidewalk that day, was never interviewed. Maybe “fair and balanced” has nothing to do with spending equal time with proponents of opposing viewpoints.Maybe our director’s comments will be in the next “fair and balanced” article.

Too bad he didn’t ask me about the mom that texted me this weekend. She chose life a couple of weeks ago and came on the Monroe HELP Pregnancy Center RV for a free ultrasound. Her reason for considering abortion was she was terrified to tell her boyfriend or her parents she was pregnant. Her fear and worry trumped her concern for the life of the unborn baby. However, somehow she managed to slip by the clutches of the “pro-choice” group and after meeting with us and seeing her baby on the ultrasound, her heart changed. She chose life.

I shared the Gospel as I always do. She was almost ready to pray to ask Jesus to be Lord, but then decided she was not really quite ready. We told her no one should make that commitment unless they believed. We of course still offered her our full range of resources through Love Life Charlotte including the baby shower that provides the first full two years of everything the baby will need except diapers. She was very grateful.

I stayed in touch, offering encouragement and daily Bible verses. Yesterday, she texted me. She had finally told her boyfriend she was pregnant, and he was overjoyed. He said he was so glad she had not aborted their child. AND, she told me she thought that now she was ready to ask Jesus to be Lord. I told her I would gladly call and pray with her. She agreed.

When I called, I asked her again if she was sure she was ready to commit her life to God. She told me she was. I opened us in prayer, and then she spoke to God. She had prepared a beautiful little testimony to say to God which she read out loud. I was amazed. Gone was every bit of reservation about coming to Jesus. She said she had remembered what we had talked about on the RV, and each night she would pray about it. God spoke to her heart. He had wooed her to Him.

I wish the reporter would have asked us about the many women whose lives are transformed when they choose life and especially when they choose God. Miracles of transformation are happening every day on the pro-life side of the sidewalk. Deaths of dozens of innocent unborn babies are happening each day on the other side, and women return to the same mindset and life-style and choices that led them to the abortion center in the first place with the added burden of the death of their babies on their conscience.

I wonder if that will be part of the next “balanced” report.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,
