The Power of the Gospel on the Frontlines of the Abortion Battle

We had four moms choose life at the abortion center yesterday! And our Cities4Life team gave out ten or more of our pamphlets. A glorious day where God was moving mightily. My favorite encounter was with the woman who drove the car in the picture above. She rolled down her window as I approached the car. I asked if she would be willing to pull over and let me share our resources that could help her. She agreed instantly. Wow. When the Holy Spirit moves, He moves BIG.

This woman, K, faced difficult circumstances and she didn’t want to abort, but didn’t know how she could manage. On top of all that, while I spoke with her, she was nauseous, and a little distracted by a sweet little boy in the back seat. She visibly calmed and relaxed as I told her about all the resources we could offer but still said she felt conflicted.

At this point, I shared the only thing that I knew could change her heart of fear and conflict.

The Gospel

The life affirming truth of who Jesus is, what He did for us, the ugliness and destruction of sin, and the redemption of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross which paid the penalty we owed for our transgressions against a holy and righteous God.

I talked with her for about an hour. I couldn’t believe it when I glanced at the sidewalk to see our afternoon Cities4Life team had arrived! In the end, K wanted to submit her life to Jesus, then and there, in front of the abortion center. We prayed together, as I held her hand and she took over the prayer to tell Jesus how much she wanted Him to be Lord of her life now, and how sorry she was for all she had done in disobeying His commands.

Amen!

Now what do you think about your little baby?” I asked.
“I think I hope that I am having a girl.”
“Does that mean you chose life?”
“Yes.”

By the end of the day, she had an appointment with our nurse for a free ultrasound, had filled out the Lovelife mentorship form so she would have a friend and resource guide, several numbers to call for housing programs to help her,  and had been added to my daily email list to receive encouraging Bible verses. I also gave her a  hand-knit blanket, a book on parenting, and a little newborn baby dress.
“Just in case she is a little girl. If not, pass it on to someone who will be blessed by it.”

These stories never cease to amaze me. The power of the Gospel to transform lives that are frantic with fear and worry. The power of the Gospel to change hopelessness to confidence. The power of the Gospel to redeem brokenness to wholeness. The power of the Gospel to usher a soul from destruction to delight in God.

It just never gets old.

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

1 Corinthians 1:18

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
