Taking Back the Rainbow at the Abortion Center

This photo is of me standing with my Cities4Life team in between downpours on the sidewalk of the abortion center. The “pro-choice” folks carry rainbow umbrellas. Not only do they use those umbrellas to try to block us from seeing or speaking to the abortion-minded women to offer tangible help, but we feel it is an affront to the sacred symbol of the rainbow.

Remember God sent the rainbow after Noah’s Flood to be a reminder to humankind that never again would He flood the whole earth to wipe out the terrible blight of sin. It is a promise of God’s providence and protection, but also points to the future of how sin would be eradicated. In the flood, the sinner was wiped out along with the rampant sin of mankind. In the New Covenant, not yet revealed during Noah’s time, the sinner would be saved but sin would be destroyed.  The necessary penalty for sin must be exacted or God would not be a perfect and righteous judge.  In the atoning sacrifice of Jesus though His death on the cross, He paid the penalty we deserved. He was crucified. We were set free.

Sinner saved; sin slayed.

The destructive Flood to wipe out sin would be replaced with the redemptive washing away of sin though the blood of Jesus.

So Cities4life decided it was time to reclaim the rainbow. We have several rainbow umbrellas on our RV for our team to use.

I was not on the sidewalk today, but I received an amazing call related to my work there. One of the moms I work with who chose life over abortion told me she simply had to relay her amazing story of God’s provision. I will not share details that would identify her, although she said one day she intends to tell this story publicly. Since choosing life over abortion, she also committed her life to Jesus. She would be the first to tell you that there were setbacks in her walk with God. Yet her conscience would not let up and she would repent of her actions that led her away from Christ and trudge forward again.

At one point, devastating circumstances shook her world. Out of the blue, I called her, just to see how she was doing. She told me about how she needed some critical surgery, but had falsified some information in order to get the insurance she so desperately needed. I urged her to pursue other avenues and gave her some suggestions. Bottom line, I told her that we cannot dishonor God and ever hope to receive His blessings. We cannot do wrong to bring about right.

Apparently, my words echoed in her soul and she canceled the insurance and admitted she could not legally have it. She said almost immediately, all the shattered pieces of her life suddenly began to reform. She was offered an insurance that would pay for the surgery. She received other unexpected assistance and suddenly, everything she had lost was impossibly regained.

“It happens every time,” she told me, “When I obey and trust God, He ALWAYS makes a way. Why do I forget that?”

We ALL forget sometimes. We ALL fall back on our own resources and lose sight of the incredible promise and power of God’s Holy Spirit in the lives of every believer.

That’s why God sent the rainbow. He knows how easily we forget.

Genesis 9:12-16

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
