The Lion's Den

For some reason, I couldn't sleep last night. Then this morning, when I finally drifted off around 6 a.m., Lucky, the crazy terrier, decided it was time for me to get up and feed him. He jumped up on me, whining, which woke the "good" dog up, and she decided to join in the act. Tomorrow, like it or not, I have to get up that early because we have our Regional Science Olympiad. As you may suspect, I was less than thrilled with Lucky's canine alarm clock system.

But in my sleepless hours I came up with an idea. I am trying to plan a trip to Las Vegas for my niece's wedding. Not only is my sweet niece a special girl and I want to be there for her, but all my siblings will be there. I don't know how I could not go. Besides that, they are getting married in the Elvis chapel, and I already ordered my poodle skirt and bobby socks.

But how can I afford it? Then, I had a brainstorm! I will contact all the independent Christian bookstores in Las Vegas and offer to do a book signing! I couldn't wait to do a google search. I'll bet you can't guess how many independent Christian bookstores there are in Las Vegas, a.k.a. "sin city". One. So I contacted that one and now will hope that they think it might be doable on such short notice. All I need is one. God often works with impossible odds...and what a fitting city to take a huge gamble in.

I suppose it is a little like David walking in the Lion's Den. I may be eaten alive in that town, peddling books about God. But on the other hand, God did close the mouth of the lion. Maybe this is my Lion's den. At the very least, I think I will give out a free copy or two in front of one of the casinos.

1 Peter 4:10
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.
