All is Good

It was a big day yesterday on two counts. First, I flew to NY with no kids in tow to see my folks. I don't know if I have EVER had four days without kids in the past 27 years. For four days, I have no responsibilities except to soak in the joy of being in the presence of my beloved parents. Secondly, my son Matthias finished two arduous days of taking the Bar exam, the culmination of all his years of schooling. Thus, I am reveling in the delights of being both a daughter, and a parent. Our generation is sometimes called the "sandwich generation" - with aging parents while we still have children at home. Yesterday, it was a delicious *sandwich* piled high with extra helpings of happy.

As I flew over upstate NY in a plane that didn't seem big enough to have been allowed out of the hangar without a nanny plane, I gazed out over the beautiful open expanse of forests and pastures on rolling hills. What a beautiful place was calling me to the home where I grew up! It is a wonderful perspective, looking over the whole panorama.

Next to me was a young mother with a baby. In that tiny bumpy plane, she had to keep the baby happy, fed, clean, and entertained. I marveled at her energy and her skill, and empathized, remembering those days. By the end of the flight, both she and the baby were fast asleep, exhausted by the strains and joys of living.

Raising my children and watching them achieve their hopes and dreams was the best part of my life! Being a child and climbing the forested hills by home while the clouds bubbled overhead was the best part of my life! Rocking in a creaky chair and looking back over all that has been with pride and delight that I played a part in the dance will be the best part of my life too! All good. It is all good.

Each portion of life has had its toils and troubles, and each has had its enchantment. The music of memories links the first word of the song with the last. It is a wonderful perspective, looking over the whole panorama. How can I do anything but fall to my knees in praise and worship!?

Praise the Lord! Sing a new song to the Lord; praise him in the assembly of his faithful people! The Lord takes pleasure in his people; he honors the humble with victory. Let God's people rejoice in their triumph and sing joyfully all night long. (Psalm 149:1, 4, 5 GNT)

  2. Vicky, Thank you for your posts. I am not on Facebook, so I am sending this out to all the prayer warriors that I can: Please pray for Rylie Hope Mogan, who is having surgery tomorrow. She is twelve years old and has been cancer free for 4 years. Her faith is strong, and she says that she is not afraid. Thank you for your prayers.
