It was a terribly cold, rainy day all day yesterday. Perfect day to do a top secret art project. We hope our Destination Imagination (DI) team will make it to the Global competition in May, but it will be very expensive. DI has advertised a video contest that any team may enter. The winner will receive a free all expense paid trip to Globals DI. My team has been so busy just getting ready for the state contest that they haven't put any time into the video contest. Fortunately, while no one but the kids may work on their project,
anyone can help them with the video. So I wrote a script and spent the day perfecting the props. My daughter had made the props over her years in DI, but they needed some fixing up. I had fun being creative. And now, all the kids will have to do is 60 seconds of acting it out for the video.
It is a huge long shot, but hey, someone has to win. And we surely
won't win if we don't enter.
The Bible has lots to say about moving forward, taking the first step, plunging into the fray, even when the odds are against you. When Moses is terribly worried about how he will lead his people to the Promised Land, the Egyptian army in hot pursuit, and the Red Sea smack dab in the way, God tells him to quit his bellyaching.
"Moses, hold out your staff, and move forward. Trust me to part the waters!"
I don't do enough of that -- move faithfully forward trusting God to part the waters that I might stride into His will on a firm and dry path. But yesterday, as I spent hours on my huge long shot project, I did. Now all I need to do is apply that determination and faith to the spiritual battles before me! We settle too easily into lives of little faith. It would be far better to lead lives straining forward in giant faith.
**********
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I
press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I
do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies
ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of
God in Christ Jesus.
Trust in the
Lord with all your heart, and
do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
But now thus says the
Lord, he who created
you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have
redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass
through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they
shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be
burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the
Lord
your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your
ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. Because you are precious in
my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you,
peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will
bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you.
The
Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to
me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. Lift up your staff, and
stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of
Israel may go through the sea on dry ground.
