Removing Hearts of Stone

I have had the strangest problem in church lately. Whenever we sing songs about Jesus' "nail scarred hands" or Him going to the cross to pay the penalty we deserved (which is only ALL THE SONGS) I end up wanting to bawl my eyes out. I have to try very hard not to picture how horrifically He suffered for me, or I can't stop crying. Yesterday, the song "Worthy is the Lamb" by Hillsong set me off. (That...or my incredibly sore body from moving a heavy dresser up two flights of stairs on Saturday for the baby shower Cities4Life threw for a mama who chose life at the abortion mill....But I think it was the song, not my physical pain.)

Any way, not only does the song express Jesus' crucifixion, but to top off the bittersweetness, my daughter used to dance in a Worship Praise Team to that song when she was a little girl. Now she is a senior, on the cusp of flying off to the rest of her life. That thought, in conjunction with the memories of her dancing in a white silk dress I made for her, and the lyrics of Jesus, Lamb of God, being crucified was just too much for me. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried not to feel the onslaught of emotions the song made me feel. It didn't work. That's OK. I would rather have a soft heart knowing what Jesus did for me, and tears dripping down my face, than the alternative.

Worthy is the Lamb by Hillsong

Thank you for the cross Lord
Thank you for the price You paid
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love You came and gave amazing grace
Thank you for this love Lord
Thank you for the nail pierced hands
Washed me in Your cleansing flow
Now all I know Your forgiveness and embrace
Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious
High and lifted up
Jesus, Son of God
The Darling of Heaven crucified
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb

Ezekiel 36:26

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
