Our Sufficiency

Happy New Year!
Frankly, I am happy to be done with 2015. It was not an easy year for me. There were many good things that happened but a boatload of struggle as well. I learned a lot about God. Here is a small sample of what I learned:

1. It is easy to focus on the negatives. There are more than enough of those to fill our minds. However, even in the midst of the most terrible situations, there are glimpses of God.
2. When you think you have been given more than you can bear, you are probably wrong. Ultimately you discover you can bear whatever you are given. You really have no other choice.
3. When you have been given more than you can bear, God is still there. If you scream at Him about it, don't worry. He can take it.
4. Never pray to God: "Do whatever it takes to bring about a change of __________" unless you mean it. Whatever it takes is often harder than you expected.
5. Try to learn God's lessons quickly. He won't be done with the trial till you get His message...and then some. And if you backslide and regress, don't worry! God is there with more trials to help hone your character. More good news: He won't let you off the hook and He won't give up on you.
6. You will never learn all of God's lessons. Expect trials. They are His classroom.
7. When everything is stripped away, God is still there. In fact, He's all that's left, and all that really mattered anyway.

There are lots more, but since those sprang to my mind, they are probably the key ones. Can't wait for 2016's revelations, and God's special brand of character molding.

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God,
