Longing for Home

I long to be home. I have been gone two weeks now, and don't return till Sunday. I miss my husband, and my dogs, and my own bed, and my favorite chair. I like travel, though like it less the older I get. The longing for home is a theme that runs throughout the Bible. First, God's chosen people were promised that one day God would gather them together and bring them to their promised land. They get there finally, after years of wandering the desert, only to be carted away into captivity time and time again. The Bible is one long story of a wayward people trying to make it home once and for all. In the end, God solves that terrible problem by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. If home is where the heart is, and our heart is filled with God...then in a sense, we are home with God all the time.

It is not a perfect home, because our flesh is still at war with our spirit. The perfect home is Heaven where we are free at last from the trials, temptations, and consequences of sin. Still, the Bible tells me that my body is the temple of God Himself! I am to glorify God Himself with my body! Really ought to make me consider deeply how I speak, what I say, how I dress, and what I portray to the world of this holy temple!

God Himself nestled at home in my heart. That makes this hotel room seem a little less lonely.

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Ephesians 2:20

Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

Matthew 19:29

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 3:11

For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
