Saving a Life

I have ongoing contact with the abortion-minded women I counsel who choose life. It is the best part of the Cities4life ministry. They follow the women as long as the crisis exists, trying their best to aid with the difficulties that arise from the decision for life. One of these young ladies has texted often to update me on the progress of her pregnancy, overjoyed with the miracle of the baby moving within her. She is so grateful for the pro-life sidewalk counselors who minister outside the abortion mills, and asked me many questions about how I became one. I told her she should write her story and I would help circulate it, because it might help someone else struggling (as she once was) over such a terrible decision as to kill their own baby. She agreed, now ardently pro-life, that she would do that at some point. She sent me a remarkable text yesterday. I read it, and asked if I could share it. She gave me permission. Here is the text that made me dance on clouds:

"Sorry to bother you, but you were absolutely right! My story does help change people's minds about abortion. I have a friend who found out she was 6 weeks pregnant yesterday. She was considering abortion because the dad is an alcoholic and abusive. I told her my story and about how you helped me and even pulled up a picture of how big her baby was. She called me this morning crying and guess what??  She left the mean man and she's KEEPING the baby!! :)"

I feel a bit like a proud grandmother. We are commanded as believers to share the truth of God's love, mercy, grace, and atoning sacrifice of His son, Jesus. It is not easy, and often accompanied by ridicule, rejection, and frankly, humiliation at times. But if everyone who came to know the indescribable gift of life in Christ just told one other person...imagine how quickly His light would reach every corner of darkness.

"You go girl," I texted back, "Shout it from the mountaintops. You just saved a life."
