I texted one of my "saves" from the abortion mill who had chosen life for her baby just to see how she was doing. She had had a rough day. She had wanted to beat up some women who had not been nice to her other children playing in the mulch outside. The poor mama would do anything to get herself and her children out of the projects...but until she could get her schooling (after the baby comes) and earn money from a decent job, she was stuck. Then shortly after that exchange, I read about another counselor and a dire need for her "save" with multiple children. There are group homes and maternity homes for pregnant single women in crisis with no other kids, but those with multiple children have few options. Many, like the woman I counsel, are trying to change their lives and follow God, and make a new and better life for their children, but they are in a very difficult hole to dig out of.
If I had a million dollars (or so), I would start a home just for single pregnant moms with multiple kids who choose not to abort. I would have childcare and schooling for the youngsters, bible studies, spiritual counseling, and job training for the moms. I would require vows of chastity. I would teach them art so they could have a creative outlet to see that the world need not be pure drudgery and despair. We would take trips to the lake to kayak and watch the sunset while great blue herons flew overhead. If only they and their children could break out of the environment that perpetuates single parenting, promiscuity, poverty, crime, and despair! If only I could give them a safe harbor while contemplating eternity and the hope of abiding in God!
Let's raise a million dollars and start this home. Who is with me?
