Be Ye Kind

I love dog people. Real dog people. The kind who will stop when they see a stray dog and feed it if it is hungry, and try to find its owners. Those real dog people tend to be great people in other ways, too. Kindness generally is like an amoeba, stretching into multiple directions.

I am blessed to be involved with several dog rescues. Through those rescues, I have hundreds of Facebook friends who love dogs. Many of them have been active in helping me with my volunteer work as a sidewalk counselor at the abortion mills. They see lives that need saving...and they want to save them. Life is life.

One of the most special of these real dog people is my friend, Carrie. Carrie has been rescuing dogs for years. She always posts pictures of beautiful sunrises on her "transport" days, as she brings dogs to their new forever homes. The fact that she takes the time to record that beautiful symbol of new beginnings always touches me. If that were all Carrie did, that would be deserving of a few jewels in her crown...but Carrie also regularly supports Cities4Life ministry by sending me hand-knit baby booties, supplies for the new mamas, and checks to cover future needs. And I know Carrie is not rich. She went without heat for part of last winter. Carrie gives sacrificially.

Carrie also has one of the world's funniest dogs. She posts about her "dirty ditch digging dingo" all the time on Facebook. Poppy is an escape artist. Carrie fills my day with joy so often, relaying the antics of Poppy. Carrie is really smart, and her sense of humor is exquisite. So I wrote and illustrated a little book about Poppy...and Carrie. At the end of the book are links to her favorite dog rescue groups. I hope you all will buy the book and then donate to those rescues.

The book should be out on Amazon within a few days. I had so much fun writing it. I laughed throughout its production. Poppy will make you smile, and Lord knows, we all need more of that. And I hope Carrie will inspire you to be an amoeba of kindness, reaching out in all directions.

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.

Colossians 3:12

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,
