Guided by The One Who Knows the Way

I got terribly lost on the way to the baby shower for S, the sweet woman I counseled who chose life over abortion six months ago. So did S. Our GPS was of no use to either of us. Eventually we managed to find our way to the home where the shower put on by Truth and Mercy Pro-life Ministries was being hosted. However, not until someone who knew the way drove out in her car and led us there.

Later, at lunch with S and Sheryl, the director of  Truth and Life Pro-Life Ministries, the gospel was clearly and unabashedly presented, as it always is at these lavish baby showers. S was very emotional, grasping the magnitude of sin, and the need for a savior. She has always loved God, but had not really understood that salvation is not based on "working our way" into Heaven, but on accepting the free gift that Jesus offers with His atoning sacrifice on the cross on our behalf. When she understood that, she wanted to pray with us "for salvation" but was crying so hard that I asked if she needed me to speak for her. She nodded.

It struck me that prior to today, she was willing...but lost. Just like we were, searching in fruitless circles trying to find the home where the shower was held. We simply could not find it on our own. It took the guidance of someone who knew the way to lead us there.

My prayer today: Heavenly Father, you know how hopelessly lost we are. We can never find our way to you on our own power. Thank you for sending Jesus, who is "the way, the truth, and the life." Thank you for guiding us, through Him, safely home to you.

S gave permission for her picture to be used, telling me, "It is important that the truth be shown to help others." Six months ago, she saw no way out but to abort her baby. Today, she says that baby is a blessing, and has already made her a better person. She says ever since her decision not to abort, blessings have been showered upon her.

Acts 4:12

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

  1. Beautiful story! I love the analogy of getting lost in your car and being spiritually lost! I loved our time with S. Thank you for connecting us. What a joy and privilege!
