Arise, Shine in the darkness

My favorite driving directions of the day from my dad:
"This is the left turn that you will not be taking by the white house with a porch where a man is usually sitting but is not there."

This is why evil must exist. If there is not a negative, there can not be a positive.

My sister Amy and I wandered about the somber Assisted Living home with our antlers and candy cane hats, spreading cheer.  We made our folks take a nap, and spent the rest of the day exhausting them.

Then we ate dinner at Cracker Barrel where Mom was promised her vegetable soup would not have lima beans, which she hates. It did. The good and the bad always manage to be lumped together.

Amy and I brought a little Christmas tree to my folks apartment, and plugged it in. As we returned from dinner and my mom saw the Christmas tree shining out the window, she paused.
She gazed at it. "Look, our neighbors must have put up a Christmas tree."
"That's yours," I said.
It was very cold but we stood some time looking at the lights glowing in the frozen darkness.

  1. Good and bad , yes! Like a round of scrabble and two of trivial pursuit.....
