Peace Be to This House

Willing child labor helping a mama fulfill a dream and fill a first home

Yesterday, several Cities4Life supporters and churches were making miracles happen. It was the first day of gathering, transporting, and filling L's apartment with the donated supplies. L is a mom who chose life over abortion almost three years ago, and moved into her first apartment yesterday. She had nothing but her clothes, but that situation quickly changed after I put out a Facebook plea and donations poured in. Because of my frozen shoulder, I could not help at all. How grateful I am for the love and kindness of so many Christ-followers in blessing this young mama.

Mary, a C4L Counselor with firstwave of supplies

The wonderful Cities4Life counselor, Mary, who collected and moved in the first wave of furniture called me while waiting for L to finish work and walk in to see her new place furnished. Different families had donated the beds and dressers. IMPOSSIBLY, the wood and color of the two beds and two dressers matched exactly, though the pieces had all come from different families. ONLY GOD!!!!!

Mary and her family made the beds, fluffed the pillows, staged the kitchen, and waited for L to finish work and walk in the door. Mary called me last night to update, and I could barely contain my excitement. I can't imagine how joyful and excited L would be feeling!
Awaiting L's arrival while testing new kitchen table set
Mary had seen a lovely area rug in varying colors when she was shopping for pillows with money donated by yet another kind C4L supporter. She wanted to buy a rug for L, but didn't know what color scheme L would like.

When L walked in the door, she was bursting with excitement. Mary asked her about the rug, and what color she would like.

"I don't care about the colors," L said, "I am just thankful for all of you and what you have given me."

The second wave of supplies arrive today, and the third wave on Sunday. I arrive on Sunday with the big surprise - the hairdresser chair she dreamed of owning to fulfill a life-time goal.

Now the prayer shifts. What will she do with all this blessing? There are many temptations, and she has a huge heart that has landed her in trouble in the past. People have taken advantage of her kindness, and I worry about how she will handle her new life. She is like a daughter to me after all these years of working with her.

She knows and loves God, and she has promised she intends to continue following Him. She has a good job, a car, and now a fully furnished apartment in a safe area. Please pray with me as this sweet woman who made such a courageous choice continues on the path God has laid before her.

ON a personal note, my new book just went life on Amazon HERE. The original story line was actually enhanced over a lunch a couple of years ago with L! She is not unlike my heroine in her gutsy decision to make a life better than the one she had known as a child. Great Christmas gift! This is the ebook link, but the print book will be out within a few days as well.

Isaiah 32:18

My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’

  2. Vicky, I had dinner with a young man who shared that Salt Lake City is breaking the cycle of poverty, by walking along side those in need, and the process has shown it takes 6 years to break the cycle. L, and you, and the groups helping are halfway there! Only God. Have faith, continue to walk alongside...Bible study, church attendance for L and she will, with God's help stay the course.
