In the Day of Adversity

The missiles of pollen are unrelenting. The trees are bursting forth with leaves for which I am grateful, but the yellow mist that covers Charlotte this time of year is difficult to deal with. Still, without the pollen that covers all the cars, and porches, and porch furniture with a sneezy wheezy layer of yellow dust, the trees and grass and flowers and bushes would not procreate. Out of adversity springs forth abundant life.

Last night, we went to see the movie, "God's Not Dead." It was one of those predictable, slightly cheesy movies with unknown actors...but with an inspiring message which still left me cheering inside. Out of terrible adversity the spirit and truth of God was manifested, and lives transformed. Do not be afraid to stand up for what you believe in and shout it from the mountaintop. It is a message I am seeing everywhere these days.

My favorite line of the movie regarding truth and faith: "It's not easy, but it's simple." Amen. We make it complex. God has made the message of His existence abundantly clear and simple to discern, but the path we are to walk in that understanding is often very hard. However, the rewards are great and it gets easier once we get past the thought that life on earth is the end of the road. When we reach heaven, it will be a piece of cake.

When the trees are done unfurling their leaves, the deluge of pollen will disappear. And we will be left with something truly wondrous to behold. It will be worth struggling with the pollen.

Romans 1: 19-21
19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Proverbs 24:10
If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
