Receiving What is Promised

I had the best ending to a very hard day. We all have them, the days where we cry for 2 hours in the shower...or maybe you don't. I do. Anyway, feeling emotionally spent and weary of heart, I sat down to write a quick text to the sweet young lady who chose life a few weeks ago at the abortion mill where I volunteer as a sidewalk counselor.

I had text messaged her last week and received no response. I was worried that she had changed her mind, and aborted her child. Still, I wanted her to know I was praying for her, and would always be available if she ever wanted to chat, so I sent her a brief text stating that. She wrote back immediately. She is excited because Monday she finds out the sex of her baby. Then she told me she would send me a photo Monday so I could see too. Tears sprang to my eyes. Funny how I feel a little like the grandmother to this child, now so wanted and loved. I cannot express how relieved I was....
And then she wrote she would like to visit with me sometime.

The Bible is replete with verses that remind us that if we strive to obey Him, to follow Him, to do His will, we will receive His blessings. On the tough days, I don't know about you, but I wonder if trying to do the right thing is worth it. So many times it leads to terrible heartache, misunderstanding, and persecution....

But then, a mama who once thought she wanted her baby to die decides instead that sweet baby should live and soon, her world is revolving around that baby, and she shares her delight with me. Now the tears are not of pain but of joy.

Jeremiah 15:19-21

Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them. And I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, declares the Lord. I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.”

Jeremiah 12:16

And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As the Lord lives,’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they shall be built up in the midst of my people.

Psalm 147:8

He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.

Psalm 138:8

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Hebrews 10:36

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
