So
here is the story which is nothing short of miraculous. I was
approached yesterday independently by both the nurse and the case worker
who asked if we had considered the independent living apartments for my parents. They
both felt the folks were not really in need of the assisted living level
of care, and were wasting a boat load of money. In the independent
apartments on the other side of the facility they would still get 3
meals a day, housekeeping, laundry done for a small fee, and a call cord
to the nurse if there was an emergency. In addition, it is an adorable
one bedroom apartment with a kitchenette and balcony, and $6000/month
cheaper.
"Do you have any available?" I asked, knowing this was too good to be true.
"We
have one. But the AC in the living room is broken. The bedroom AC
works, but we don't feel we can rent till the AC is fixed. The part is
ordered, and could come in tomorrow,or in 2 weeks, or in 3 months. We
just don't know."
"Well my parents have lived 40 years without AC...if they agreed, would you let them move in?"
"We'll check."
Miracles
2 and 3. The folks were supposed to have paintings hung in the assisted
living room the day before yesterday, but inexplicably, the maintenance
folks never showed up. The cable company was supposed to arrive the day
before yesterday as well to install the internet, phone, and cable.
Messages got crossed and they told us at the day's end they would not
arrive till the following day (yesterday.)
So,
I told the folks about this new independent living option. They were very interested, and
we went down to tour the apartment. Dad loved it, but Mom had concerns.
"I had been so excited about them hanging the paintings in the other
place today."
I
called the caseworker. Could my parents move in today, and could the
paintings be hung today, and all of it done by 3 pm, when the cable guy
showed up?
She called me back. Yes.
While
we were at lunch, half the stuff from the old room was already in their
new place, paintings hung shortly thereafter, and the cable guy
installed phone, internet, and cable. At 5:00, I gave them their
leftovers from lunch and a glass of wine (no prescription needed since
they were now independent and not on the assisted living level!) and
they watched their beloved Judge Judy while reclining on their favorite
chairs.
Bottom
line: God is good. He works out everything in accordance to His purpose
to those who love Him...and I tell you...I LOVE Him!
After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied. Isaiah 53:11 (NIV)

Surely that's a typo? You mean they save 600.00 a month. Who can live somewhere that costs more than 6000.00 a month??? I am so glad they are settled in a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteNope. Assisted living for 2 was over $8000 per month.
DeleteWell I guess it's the county home for me cause I could never ever afford that even with social security and selling my house. Wow. They are indeed blessed.
