God's Provision

Whenever an abortion-minded woman chooses life for her baby, we Cities4Life counselors provide her with a list of resources, bags of gifts, and a pledge to walk with her on this journey if she desires. I always tell the women I cannot promise anything, but if they have a need, let us know, and we will go to our network of supporters to see if that need can be met.

One of those women (Marlene -- not her real name) who was most conflicted in the beginning because her needs were so dire, texts me regularly. I have become her friend, and I am always cheered by her honesty in her struggle, accompanied by her growing gratitude for the child growing within her.

This week she texted me: "Do you know anyone who wants to sell a refrigerator?"
"No, but let me see if any of our supporters do."
I put out a Facebook plea, thinking this would be a tough request to fulfill.
A day later, there was a message in my inbox.
"Vicky, we are selling my mom's house and have an extra refrigerator. Would you like it?"

"How much is it?" asked Marlene.
"Free."
"Wow. That's crazy. I'll take it!"

God does not always work this way. But I have found that He often does for those shaky believers, stepping forth in faith on a path they are certain they cannot walk. I am always quick to remind them that this is the God they move closer to each time they step in obedience to His plan and His will. This God promises to supply every need, to never leave or forsake them, to give them a future and a hope, to make grace abound, to enrich them in every way, to comfort them and  make them anxious for nothing, and to open the windows of Heaven and pour down every blessing. How could anyone reject such a glorious Father?

Philippians 4:19

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
