This is a really cute story.
My folks recently moved to an independent apartment in an assisted living facility. Dad kindly bought one of each of my books ( 14 in all) to donate to the facility library. I offered to come do a presentation for their residents if they would like me to. The activities director was thrilled, and set up a date in October. I will be visiting my folks in NY to help prepare their house for sale, and one afternoon that week will do a presentation for the Assisted Living Manor.
Meanwhile, the book on which I will be doing my presentation, my first book, just premiered as an audiobook. It is the true story of a starving, dying dog we rescued from a roadside, and the ensuing year of PURE HELL as we tried to rehabilitate her. The audio producers provided me with a number of free copies, to offer as promotional material to whomever I wanted. (PS- it is #1 audio book in its category on Amazon this morning!)
I offered a free audiobook to the assisted living facility. The activities director gladly downloaded the audiobook to her phone, and will play it for the residents over the next month in preparation for my little talk. The book is filled with the faithful provision, mercy, and grace of God as we struggled to save a dog no one felt was worth saving. It is, at its core, a story of redemption. I am being invited to share the glory of God in my life. How cool is that?
While trying to determine the process of gifting the audiobooks, I called Customer Service of audible.com. The kind woman who helped me asked about my book, and then talked me through the procedure. A short time later, I received this email from her:
Hello Vicky,
This is E, thank you for contacting Audible!
I just wanted to let you know that since we spoke on 07/10/2015, I got interested in your book, and I have decided to buy it.
I read the review on our website and I am going to buy it.
I am sure that it is a powerful story, and it will certainly help me with the mourning of my dog, and the new one I have.
It was totally a pleasure to speak to you; and I wish the best for you and your daughter, and I hope I can follow your example more often with dogs in need.
Again thank you for contacting Audible. And God bless you.
My eyes welled with tears as I read her letter.
I am nothing. Nobody. Weak, fallible, flawed. Yet God can use even me to proclaim His truth, His mercy, His grace, His love, His hope.
I still have free audiobooks to gift. Comment on this post with your email address, join my mailing list (top right hand side of this blog), follow my blog, promise to share the book link with your friends, and write a review, and this $25 audiobook is yours free as long as supplies last!
And remember, God uses the weakest among us sometimes to proclaim the most profound truths.
