The Promptings of the Spirit

Has anyone else ever noticed that the Holy Spirit never seems to prompt you to do things that you just cannot wait to do? Maybe it is just me, but the prompting of the Holy Spirit is usually to tackle something that is breathtakingly difficult.

I guess that makes sense. If it were easy, why would we need the Holy Spirit?

I think that may explain why the promptings of the Holy Spirit are so often ignored. Who wants to listen to a voice that tells them on a regular basis to humble thyself, sacrifice for others, do right even though it is painful?

Just some thoughts as I closed a day of prayer and Bible study.

1 Peter 4:12-13

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

For my sighing comes instead of my bread, and my groanings are poured out like water.

Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
