A Reminder of Joy to Come

The day before yesterday, the trees were bare. Yesterday, all of a sudden the Bradford Pear trees    were in bloom all along our street! White blossoms had burst forth in profusion overnight, and transformed our neighborhood to a cathedral of flowers arching over us.

I walked along, marveling not only at the beauty, but at the suddenness with which the entire landscape had been transfigured. As always, God had a lesson for me.

Don't think the bleak winter of your soul will be for all eternity. There are seasons of the spirit, just as there are seasons on earth. One day it is winter, and then all of sudden, birds return, buds flower, and spring explodes across the landscape.

Take heart.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Revelation 21:1

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
