Mountain Tops

I am basking in the joy of a full day of my new book being #1 in its category on Amazon. In the huge category of Technology, it was number 3...ahead of the Steve Jobs book!!! That made me really proud. For a while there, before the book was selling, I felt like a mother with an ugly baby. Everyone wants to congratulate you, but everyone knows the baby is ugly. Except the mother. To the mother, the baby is the most beautiful thing on earth.

Lots of really amazing people are now reading my book, though I still haven't heard back from Oprah or Rush Limbaugh, or the director Ron Howard. I made sure they received a free copy. I'm sure they will get back to me soon. I felt almost famous. Still, when I walked in the door, my dogs rolled over and treated me just the same, as though I was not an Amazon best-selling author. They just cared about how good a belly rub I could give.

The book rankings will change. The next new book will usurp me and I will drift into the valley of the unknowns again, shoved from the mountaintop.  I sometimes wonder how Moses ever had the strength to return to the valley after receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. They would have had to drag me away kicking and screaming. No one wants to leave Glory.

But sadly, most of life is in the valley. We try as hard as possible to hang on to the glow of those moments so far above the earth, but it will vanish like the morning mist. So God in His wisdom leaves us His presence. He is in every word of the Bible, and for the Believer, His Holy Spirit dwells within us from the moment of faith. I need that, especially when the thrill of the mountaintop is still fresh and as I start to come down, I know what I am losing.

Exodus 19: 16-20
16 On the morning of the third day there was thunderg and lightning, with a thick cloudh over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast.i Everyone in the camp trembled.j 17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.k 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke,l because the Lord descended on it in fire.m The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace,n and the whole mountainb trembledo violently. 19 As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and the voicep of God answeredq him.c
20 The Lord descended to the top of Mount Sinair and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up.

    1. Congrats on your big order and really bask in the joy of it. But yes, in the trenches is always a little harder after a victory. need some extra Bible time then for God to remind us that most of life is spent in the trenches, but He is always there with us.
