The younger boy looked perplexed as he listened. When his older brother said he hadn't known that and would be careful not to promote the showers, the young boy tugged on his mother's sleeve.
"So what do you need for the showers?" he asked earnestly, "Soap...water?" He clearly was confused as to why we did not have an abundance of supplies to offer baby showers to all the women who chose life.
If only that was all we needed! Every woman who chose life could have a lavish baby shower with all the soap and water she wanted. But as I thought of the funny literal translation of the words the young boy had made, I considered how God does give every baby a shower when her mama chooses life. He showers love, and blessings, and joy, and innocence. He gives us new eyes to see the world through. Children should never be regarded as a burden. They are one of God's most precious gifts.
Today, my "baby" turns 17. For years, I longed for a little girl, and 9 years after my second child, God sent me my baby girl. I named her Asherel, which is Hebrew for "blessed of God." And she is. All children are of course and it is why I stand on the sidewalks of the abortion mill and beg the women to reconsider what they are about to do. God longs to shower them with blessings, not tears of remorse and despair.
Happy Birthday, my little blessing from God.
