Delight in the Lord

I am beginning to meet and know some of the regular midweek kayakers on the river. One is a woman with a very well-trained German Shepherd. The sweet dog lies obediently on the grass while her owner takes the kayak off the top of her car. The dog quivers, and watches with unblinking eyes. Sometimes she crawls forward, her tail thumping, her ears perked forward.
"Stay," says the owner.
The dog stops and breathlessly watches as the kayak is lowered to the grass. She cannot contain a soft whine of anticipation.
The owner drags the kayak to the shore, and the dog bounds after her. She splashes into the water and is already swimming halfway across the river as the owner begins paddling in the kayak after her.

I watch the dog swim, and the owner paddle until they are just distant dots on the horizon.
This is what we should all be like, I think as I watch them, every morning as we open our eyes, and stretch our arms and our legs, and feel a full breath of sweet air fill our lungs. Praise God for the blessing of life, for awakening to a new day, for new beginnings, and hopes and dreams in this beautiful world He created for us.

Lamentations 3:22-24

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

I will be taking a break from my daily blog for a few days. The next few days are chock full, and I have ideas for the sequel to my new book, The Bark of the Covenant, that I need to give my attention. Be strong in the Lord, and Lord willing, see you when I resume.
