Treading Water

I am working on a project for a pro-life fund raiser. I spent an entire day, 12 straight hours working on a design, as a draft. The photo above is just a portion of it. In the end, they decided that was not the direction they wanted to go, so I can use it for my blog. I spent the next full day working in a different direction. If they don't like that one, I am not sure I have what it takes...

However, it was not wasted time. I learned a ton of stuff about my computer art program that I thought I had understood pretty well. It turns out, I had a whole lot more to learn. I am so grateful for the time spent on the art project because ultimately, it will make me a better graphic artist.

Time spent in God's work is never wasted. I don't know about you, but so often, I feel like I am just spinning wheels. I am going as fast as I can nowhere, it seems. There are many verses that describe God's people feeling sluggish, or stagnant as they are seemingly just treading water. God tells us in those situations, the solution is: 1. understand He sees that you are working the best you can, and in your apparently fruitless labor, He knows you are laboring in love. 2. He urges us to continue with diligence until our work is done, no matter how hopeless it may seem at times. 3. He counsels that we not become lazy or apathetic because the results do not seem worth the effort. In the end, through faith and patience, we will receive what has been promised if we do not give up.

I suppose, it is always better to labor without result in obedience to God than to move mountains in defiance of Him.

 Hebrews 6: 10-12
10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
