Waving Goodbye

There are so many blessings being a part of a ministry whose mission is to save babies on the brink of destruction. Cities4Life Sidewalk counselors endure wretched weather and oftentimes ridicule, anger, and abuse while standing on the sidewalks of abortion centers pleading with moms to let us help them and their unborn babies. One of the most difficult situations for me personally is when a mom is wavering and decides she WANTS to come on our RV with the mobile ultrasound unit and WANTS to see her baby and explore other options, and the “pro-choice” volunteers try to talk her into going into the abortion center and not speaking with us. That happened yesterday.  It happens often...with every car that enters that parking lot.

Another young woman was on the porch crying yesterday. Me and one other counselor called out to her for several minutes, telling her we were here to help if she was struggling with the choice of abortion. We could offer another choice that would not cause this anguish in her soul. We listed some of those resources, and pleaded for her to recognize the humanity of that precious child she carried inside her.

The “pro-choice” people tried to block her from our offers with their umbrellas. Thankfully, she waved them away. Later, with her friend cheering, they left and drove away with the baby safe in her womb. The “pro-choice” people told her we were crazy, and don’t stop to talk to us. They didn’t want her to avail herself of the wealth of help we could offer.

Pro-choice? Where is the choice in that? They are offering and encouraging one choice and one choice alone: abortion.

Despite the efforts of the pro-abortion crew, three women chose life yesterday, and our team was overjoyed with the delight of the changes in heart inclining mothers to their babies. But as always, our joy was mingled with sadness. One woman had seen her baby on the ultrasound. The little baby did her best to convince her mother to love her. She tumbled and stretched and turned her beautiful profile for the mother to clearly see her sweet features. She even raised her little hand and waved.

The mother fought tears briefly at that moment.

The wave seemed to be the baby saying as best she could, “Hello precious mother, I am here and cannot wait to meet you.”

However, despite all the silent, eloquent pleas of her child and of our offers of hope and help, that mom aborted her little baby.

The little hand hand raised in greeting  was simultaneously a tiny doomed child waving goodbye.

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
