What Does a Humbled, Repentant Heart look Like?

Two women chose life at the abortion center yesterday and one baby was born to a mom who chose life a few months ago. Another woman stopped to cheer us on for speaking on behalf of the babies and trying to help these women. As I was heading to my car to leave, I called out to a young man standing on the porch. To my surprise, he came over.

He said it was “probably” his baby who was being killed. He was very polite, and seemed eager to talk. He told me he believed in God but didn’t really know what those beliefs entailed. He took our literature and told me he would give it to the young lady who was aborting. He was waiting for an Uber to take him to get something to eat while his child was being executed.

I asked how he felt, knowing his baby was being aborted today. He shrugged and said it was okay.

The Uber driver called while I was sharing my own story of finding God and the horror of the sin of abortion in my own life. He had the Uber driver on speaker phone. She pulled up a few moments later and asked to talk with me.

“You know you are forgiven, right?”she asked me.
“Yes,” I said.
“And so are these women,” she said, pointing to the abortion center.
“Many of these women have not asked forgiveness,” I told her, “Or have presumed upon God’s mercy while knowingly defying Him. That does not show a humbled, repentant heart, but a heart hardened to God’s commands.”
“God knew when He gave them those babies what would happen. We are to show God’s love, not tell them what to do.”
“Ma’am,” I said, “We are to show God’s love. I agree. But babies are dying in there and the Bible says we are to be a voice for the voiceless and rescue those   being led to the slaughter.”

We talked a while longer, and then she thanked me for all we are doing pointing women to God and to life. That surprised me. I had thought her message to me was to shut up and leave these women to figure out on their own how to be forgiven after aborting their precious children..

Instead she told me, “I never had an abortion. I was fifteen and I had my baby.”
“Well bless you,” I said, “That was the right choice.”
“Yes,” she agreed.
The young man got in the car, and they drove away. I prayed that this woman would give him an earful of God. He sure needed it.
