Wrestling with Enemies

I am amazed at how much artwork I produced over the years. It will take forever to go through all the artwork in my attic. I don't remember doing the one pictured here at all. But I really like it. If none of my friends decide they cannot live without it, off it goes to eBay auction.

The light in the storm sits right atop treachery and danger. Those rocks would dash any unsuspecting sailor and his boat to pieces. Enemies abound... but if we focus on the light, we are safe.

I almost took a dog home yesterday. I took a break from rummaging through my art work and went on a run. While huffing and puffing, I passed a couple with two dogs. One of them looked so much like my dearly departed Honeybun, that I almost started crying.

"Sir," I said, as I stopped in front of them, "Do you know that you have a Carolina dog?"
"I have heard that," he said, "But we don't know. What is a Carolina dog?"
Here is the kicker. This dog even had a 'broken ear' like Honeybun did which inspired my first book,
I'm Listening with a Broken Ear.

"Look at this," I said, pulling the photo of my book up on my phone, with the picture of Honeybun on the cover.
"Wow."
"I know. Your dog looks just like her...even down to the broken ear."
"She's not really our dog. We are just fostering her. You can have her if you want her."

The dog that looked just like my Honeybun licked my hand. I cannot tell you how close I came to taking that leash. You should have seen the knock-down battle going on between common sense and desire. However, as I am about to get operated on for breast cancer and we have a host of other severe life issues to deal with, the last thing I need is to take on another dog.

"I want her," I said, "But I can't have her. She's a special dog. You are really lucky."

I continued on my run, with more than a little regret tugging at me. No. I can't have a dog right now. Maybe one day. Not now. First I have to get my breast whacked off. Then I have to deal with chemo and/or radiation, not to mention wigs, breast reconstruction, and learning to manage stress so the cancer doesn't decide to come back.

Still.

"Did you have a nice run?" my husband asked, as I came through the door, as if I hadn't wrestled with a million enemies.
"Yes."

One of my other favorite pets was my horse Joe from my childhood. The book I wrote about him which spawned a series of books is currently FREE. Click HERE to purchase (for free.) Audio books and print books are also available at the site, but they are not free - just the ebook. however I strongly recommend the audiobook. Fantastic job by a professional actress.

Ephesians 5:15-17

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.
