Several thousand people showed up for the LoveLife Prayer March at the abortion clinic where Cities4Life ministers to women, offering tangible resources and the hope of God. I was there from early in the morning till mid afternoon. Several of the moms I have worked with over the years were there, including the first woman I led to the Lord as a sidewalk counselor.
Both of the former abortion workers I have been working with showed up as well. One recently left the abortion work and did not yet want to be publicly identified. However, she wanted to be there. She later wrote to me telling me she had never known so much love and acceptance. She was floored by the outpouring of kindness to her. The second one, Crystal, who is eager to be a voice for life now, lives two hours away.
She texted me in the morning to tell me she had been in an accident while en route to Charlotte. However, she said no matter what, she would be there. She would NOT let Satan defeat her.
I kept the people in charge of the program up to date on Crystal’s progress. They had hoped to have her on stage for the opening rally before the prayer walk, but she would clearly not make that. We rearranged the schedule and prayed she would arrive in time to be on stage for the closing rally after the prayer walk.
Thousands of people made their way silently, praying, along the walk down the street and past the abortion center. I am there several days a week. Friday, I was all alone for the first hour in front of the abortion center passing out literature and calling to the women. Now thousands of people walked with me as we passed by. Many thoughts went through my head. I admit one thought was will these people respond when we ask for help for the women who choose life?
We finished the prayer walk and the closing rally was starting on stage. I got a text from Crystal. “HERE.” She had parked up the street.
I scurried to the organizer and told him Crystal was here, and would be at the stage in ten minutes.
“Tell her to run,” he said.
I ran to meet her, and then grabbed her hand and dragged her as fast as we could move through the crowd. I hauled her to the stage and up the steps to the organizer, “This is Crystal!”
He took over from there. Crystal, who hadn’t even known she would speak made a beautiful little speech to thousands of people while I beamed and filmed video for Facebook Live. When it was announced that this young woman had left her job as an abortion worker and was now following Jesus, the crowd exploded with cheers.
When she came off stage, the other abortion worker who just left her job was waiting to meet Crystal. They have a lot of hurt, and healing, to share. As they hugged each other, I wanted to cry.
As Crystal and I were about to head off for lunch, a reporter asked to interview Crystal. I taped that interview as well, in case the national reporter tried to twist or edit Crystal’s comments. Her wonderful interview is HERE.
Her comments in the interview blessed me. She said she came to the rally with anxiety...how would this pro-life crowd perceive her, she who had been on the other side? A worker in an abortion clinic. She said she expected condemnation, bitterness, anger....but what she received was very different. LIke the other abortion worker had noted, all she received was love. “I feel like i just found a new family.”
