The Holy Spirit in McDonalds

Picture this: You are in McDonalds, and you see a woman. The Holy Spirit prods your heart and you ask her, “Are you pregnant?” She does not look pregnant, but you are down the street from the abortion center and you just KNOW.
“Yes,” she says.
“Are you on the way to the abortion clinic?”
“Yes.”
“Please may I share with you how we can help?”

Not in a million years would I do that is likely what you are thinking. That is exactly what that brave lady on the left in the picture above did. And the younger woman in the photo texted me (I was already at the abortion center sidewalk waiting for other sidewalk counselors to arrive.)
“Pray, Vicky, Connie is counseling two women in McDonalds who were headed your way.”

These Cities4Life volunteers are amazing. They love God and faithfully show up each week, filled with the desire to help the women who feel abortion is their only answer. And lately, Connie has felt inexplicable promptings in her spirit to stop and talk with women in unlikely settings. When she obeys the prompting, invariably it has led to divine appointments like the one at McDonalds.

Sadly, those two women continued on to the clinic and as far as we know, aborted. At least, they heard the Gospel and the truth of the devastation of abortion.

However, God was not done using Connie.

While Connie and her group were in McDonalds, I was alone on the sidewalk as the abortion-minded women began streaming in. As they sat in their cars waiting for the clinic doors to open, I used my red bullhorn to talk to them. Two women sat in one car facing me. It appeared to be a mother and her daughter. The mother looked distraught, and covered her face and wiped away tears as I spoke. The daughter looked stoically ahead. I spoke for half an hour non-stop. The doors to the clinic opened and the young woman went in.

When Connie and her group arrived, one of our counselors pointed out that the older woman I had been talking to looked Hispanic. Connie, who is fluent in Spanish, talked to her. The woman nodded through her tears when Connie asked if she spoke Spanish. While Connie called out to her, I was distracted by a woman who pulled over and was willing to let me talk with her about options other than abortion. That discussion had been going on for over half an hour when I noticed the young woman emerge from the clinic. With the older Hispanic woman, they came across the parking lot to Connie. Ultimately, they agreed to go for an ultrasound at our partner organization, Monroe HELP Pregnancy Center to see their baby today. They would keep the  baby.

A second woman chose life, and the unusual morning ended for us as it began — with all of us gathered in prayer and praising God for the privilege of speaking for those who are unable to speak for themselves.

Maybe you have wondered how people like Connie end up being used so mightily by God. When you open your arms before the Lord and say, “Here am I, use me,” God always answers that prayer.

Even in McDonalds, the Holy Spirit is working in the lives of the saints who pour out their lives for Him.

Matthew 25:31-46

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, ...
