The Gift that keeps on giving.....

Strange. My facebook friend mentioned that she was stung last week by a jellyfish. The pain and welts had gone away and then returned a week later with swelling and redness. I had noticed that Asherel's jellyfish sting of two weeks ago had also suddenly reemerged red and swollen. I had thought little of it...but now I wondered if this was something new to send my blood pressure through the roof. I went online to see if anyone else on God's green planet and increasingly frightening oceans had encountered this phenomenon.

There is a whole social networking group of welted comrades who have experienced the reemergence of jellyfish swelling sting sites. Many are swimmers from waters off Australia where the multitude of small creatures that can kill you within seconds makes me wonder why anyone would want to attempt to live there. As I read over the posts from these fellow stung ones, I began to piece together a frightening realization. Normal jelly fish stings do not reemerge. The ones that come back, and do often need antibiotics to eradicate are stings from the Portugese Man of War, the beautiful purple blobs I had seen on the beach the day Asherel was stung.... the jelly fish that are not true jellyfish, but are "siphonophore – a colony of four kinds of minute, highly modified individuals, which are specialized polyps and medusoids." (wikipedia).

Personally, if I were designing the universe, I would not create inhabitants that blob together to sting sweet 13 year old girls and not only cause pain and suffering that day, but then reappear for more pain and suffering 2 weeks later. However, I am not applying for the job as the universe is much too vast for a mere mortal to effectively control and I seem to fall apart just trying to manage one little family.

And while I am not complaining, I am not happy, per se. She has a doctor appointment this morning for the probable antibiotics to subdue the probable infection. I am not positive an ocean vacation is on my top 10 list of fun things to do anymore. Especially since my hairdresser told me there was a shark attack

last week at the beach we always go to . I guess if there were not horrible things in the world, we might not appreciate or even recognize the wonderful...... I might never want to leave the lovely ocean. Right now... I am a little hesitant to leave my bed, but I know I will get over it.

Ecclesiastes 7:14

14 When times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider:
God has made the one
as well as the other.

  1. I so find this verse to be particularly apropos, and applicable to so much in all the situations I face at all times as well.
