Opportunities

One of the wonderful women who chose life after hearing our pleas at the abortion mill Monday is meeting me for lunch today. A friend donated a carton of maternity clothes, so I texted V and asked if she would like them. She said "Yes ma'am." She texted a few other comments, and I knew she needed someone to talk to.

"Can I take you to lunch?" I asked.
"I would really like that," she answered.

Earlier that day, an article in a very liberal local Charlotte paper came out about our pro-life ministry. It was not as bad as we expected, but still very biased. It described me in generally kind terms, but added that I reminded the reporter of  "of an aging, socially active hippie who might invite you to split a brownie."  Should I be pleased, or insulted? Not quite sure, but for the record, I was not much of a hippie in an era when everyone was a hippie, and I never made brownies. (In the rest of the article were several inaccuracies and unflattering portrayals. It was not as bad as it could be coming from such a liberal paper, but it demonstrated how bias colors what is reported.)

As I returned home after picking up the donated carton of maternity clothes for V, the doorbell rang. It was a delightful young lady and her sister selling fund-raisers for her choir to go to Carnegie Hall! At first, I said no, I just didn't have extra money. But then I started chatting with her, and found out she went to the school one of my daughter's old friends went, and I knew that friend was in the choir. I asked if she knew that person, and she said she was her best friend! So of course, I bought the fund raiser.

Then we began chatting, and somehow got on the subject of abortion. Soon, I was pouring out my heart about why I believed so strongly in the pro-life movement, and felt abortion was so wrong. It turns out, this young woman mentors disadvantaged youth, and wondered if I would come speak to them. I said, "Of course," and gave her my number.

God opens so many doors. All we have to do is seek opportunities to spread His truths. In a world so desperate to hear a message of hope, righteousness, and healing, we have a glorious privilege with nearly everyone we meet.

Ephesians 5:15-17

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
