When I am Weak....

Here is the Monday abortion mill update, from the eyes of me...a lowly sidewalk counselor speaking for the little ones who cannot. I was very distracted -- sick dog, unfinished college financial forms with looming deadlines, and overheating computer. (Yes, it is back in the shop...) So I headed off to the sidewalks of the abortion mill to plead for life for the babies with a less than stellar mind-set.

First of all, rain was not in the forecast. I am lodging an official complaint. When I arrived, I was all alone, me and the gathering clouds and about 50,000 cars of women streaming in to kill their babies. The lot was really full.  The  good news was there were already two mamas on the pro-life mobile ultrasound unit. Both chose life. Then the rest of my dynamic team arrived. I got on the mic (our sound system ) right away to speak on behalf of the little doomed babies. I felt very uninspired, if not downright stupid. Nonetheless, mamas in the clinic can hear us on the mic, and if I have a voice, I must raise it for those that do not. Lack of my inspiration and eloquence does not change the date of their appointment with death. One must do what one is able with what little one has when it is needed.

I think my list of worries affected me on the mic. My speech felt halting, and maybe even incoherent at times. Long pauses. Cars streaming in like it was the State Fair. Despair! And then someone who comes now and then to the sidewalks (not a part of our group) but has never spoken on the mic, wanted to let me know what I ought to be saying. Don't get me wrong, I love being told what to do by someone who has never done it. God Bless Him, it had the effect of making me even more self-conscious and tongue-tied than before. (PS- for the record, I do say some of what he suggested at times, except for the parts I flat out disagreed with...but when you are on there for 3 hours, you gotta change things up or the security workers fall asleep.) (PS- no security workers yesterday.)

Anyway, what happened next proves once again that it is not my strength or eloquent words (or lack of eloquent words) that convicts and changes minds, but God. The Gospel is powerful and the message of the God-endowed humanity of the baby is the root of the matter. A woman came out of the mill, rolled down her window, and told me she would go to the free ultrasound. It is all I could do to keep from dancing a jig. Her boyfriend was a doll. He told me he didn't want her to get the abortion, anyway, and was thrilled she was willing to get the free ultrasound. I told her when she chose life after seeing her baby on the ultrasound, to come back, cause I had a passle of gifts for her.

After her ultrasound, they drove back over and rolled down their window to tell me the verdict. She chose life for her little one. The first thing she did was show me the picture of her baby. She was pretty far along, and it was a great picture of her little munchkin. Some ultrasound photos are not clear, but this one was. The  baby with all her beautiful human parts was clear as the rainy day was not.

The mama admitted she was scared, but happy. I gave her my phone number, promised her the Taj Mahal if she needs it. I gave her my entire stash of maternity clothes and a blessing bag of baby supplies my church class gave me. Later, she texted me and thanked me....for everything.

Yay God.

I did dance in the rain, then. Danced in the puddles with my hands in the air. In my hands-free umbrella hat. I bet it was quite the photo opp for people who think we are crazy. We ARE crazy -- crazy for God.

One other lady went on the ultrasound, and also chose life. Four babies saved!!! Then someone who had driven the car for a friend to get an abortion went on the free ultrasound. She chose life, but she doesn't strictly count as Mama of #5 saved baby cause she was not abortion-minded. We begged her to talk her friend out of the abortion, and she did try briefly, to no avail.

I left the abortion mill, soaked, and chilled to the bone. Now it was time for my meeting with the computer geeks. What an unexpected delight that turned out to be. They instantly said rather than troubleshoot on the overheating issues, they just would rather give me a new computer. (!) Then as we were chatting, and one overheard I was an author, she went online, found my books, and ordered one on the spot. And this morning...my little Honeybun, my very sick dog, seems to have turned a corner. She was in the kitchen underfoot for the first time in ten days begging for breakfast!

It was one of those days when I was very, very weak. How glorious that God is always very, very strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Psalm 34:17-20

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Philippians 4:19

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
