But You Will See Me

I was driving yesterday and saw a billboard, rent in two. It had been ripped from the top to the bottom, not quite severed at the base. What caused that? It was very strange and I couldn't imagine how it had happened. I instantly thought of the curtain in the Holy of Holies innermost chamber of the Temple in Jerusalem. That curtain separated the rest of the temple from the most holy chamber of the temple where no one but the high priest was allowed to enter, and even he, but once a year. That inner sanctuary was where the Ark of the Covenant resided, and represented the place where the priest alone could offer sacrifices for the sins of the people in the presence of God.

When Jesus died, that curtain was rent in two, from top to bottom. Human hands could not have done that. The curtain stretched far above the reach of any person. It was an act of God and happened at the moment Jesus surrendered His life. It was very significant in that it showed how Jesus' death (and resurrection) enabled our access to God. No longer were we bound by the law or the need for a human intermediary to offer sacrifices in atonement for our sins. Jesus Himself was the atoning sacrifice for our sin, and we could enter God's holy presence without fear. The curtain has been opened for everyone to enter the most holy place. All that is required of us: repent, believe in Jesus, and accept the incomparable gift of what He has done on our behalf...then His very spirit indwells us and we are in His Presence.

I know it was just a billboard I saw, but what a wondrous remembrance it sparked of what God did for me, commemorated this day. Happy Resurrection Sunday.

John 11:25

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.

And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
