Are Lives Transforming? Thoughts on Pro-life Endeavors

Baby saved from abortion, now 2 years old

I subscribe to a site that sends me a new word every day. I have a terrible memory, so most of the new words fall quickly from my jello-trap mind into the abyss of forgotten memories. Anyway, today's word is a good one. Alembic: noun- something that refines, purifies, or transforms.

In my work as a sidewalk counselor at the Southeast's busiest abortion center, I often ponder the impact of all the hours I spend pleading with women to choose life for their unborn babies. Is it worthwhile? Is it efficacious? Will they just be back one day to abort a different baby? Will the babies grow up in dismal circumstances and curse me if they had the chance?

Or will the mothers hear a message that is suffused with the alembic of God's word?

I believe that abortion is wrong, a blight on our country and on our souls, and a terrible evil. I believe God created human life in His image and we have no right to destroy innocent human life. I believe the church who claims Jesus Christ as Lord should rise up against this scourge and take seriously the Biblical admonition to: Speak up for those who have no voice, for the justice of all who are dispossessed. Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy. (Proverbs 31:8-9).

However, unless the alembic of God's spirit takes precedence in the woman's life and circumstances, the cycle of terrible choices and the world-view that allows the taking of unborn human life as an acceptable solution will not end.

Romans 12:2 says:  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect

Our efforts are indeed futile if God is not present and primary in our work. Our focus must be the alembic of His spirit working in the hearts of those rushing to destruction.

I am hoping now I will remember this very wonderful new word.

Please join Cities4Life on the sidewalks. We equip new volunteers with one-on-one shadowing of experienced counselors, training, and resources. When women choose life for their unborn babies, we have a partner ministry, Love-Life Charlotte, that mentors and strives to meet ongoing spiritual and material needs of the moms and babies. This is a model that truly strives to be an alembic to the choice of abortion. Email Vicky for info at VKaseorg@cities4life.com
