Jake, another young person who knows as a man he must protect the vulnerable |
I am blown away by the compassion for the unborn that our young Cities4Life volunteers express. These young people FILL the sidewalk every Tuesday. I know many adult believers who have followed Christ for decades that have never stood in such a difficult setting to proclaim the power of Christ and uphold the cause of the innocent.
This Tuesday, Jake was there as usual faithfully holding signs up the street from the abortion center. The signs are incredibly powerful. Throughout the Bible, God used signs to show the world the terrible nature of sin and powerful glory of redemption. Jesus on the cross is of course the most compelling sign God sent to show the degree of horror with which God regards sin. So Jake performs a critical role standing for hours in the hot sun.
This Tuesday, Jake stood with his sign, and four women chose life. Two women accepted Jesus as Lord. Surprisingly, as I was telling one woman car-side about the vast resources we could offer to help her and giving her the incredible hope of Jesus, Vi Lyles, the Charlotte mayor pro tem running for mayor, stopped to chastise me. She asked me why I was blocking the road, while the woman I counseled was crying because she had faced depression her whole life and was suddenly recognizing there was a light she had never seen before. Vi Lyles had pulled into the abortion center to talk with several pro-choice folks, but not a single one of the pro-life people, except to yell at me. I guess she will be mayor (if elected) of only some of the people.
The people the mayor pro tem visited instead of us had the sound system for the day. During our team prayer, they chose to use this sound system to broadcast the lewd simulation of sexual intercourse. This is what the pro-choice crowd at the Latrobe abortion clinic believe is helpful and empowers women (?) Please view with extreme discretion. Not for children.
After the mayor pro tem spoke with me sternly about speaking car-side and offering resources to this poor overwhelmed new mom, Jake stood nearby silently, holding the sign of a baby saved from abortion. A message of hope.

Listen to the heart of this young man. I want to weep with joy for his incredible tenderness towards the babies who are being led to their death by their own parents.
I first became aware of the abortion center in Charlotte through
friends that were with cities4life. My mom went along a few times and shared
with me the great need. Need for help to the hurting that go on a daily basis.
I never thought about volunteering until our church had an outreach program.
program in which I visited the work there for the first time. As I left that
day I was speechless. Just seeing the reality that in every car most likely, if not
for sure, was a child being murdered. This left a tremendous impact on my life.
That was when I began seeking God for direction in
whatever ministry He would want in my life. Not thinking about cities4life in
particular but on a general basis. Within a few weeks my mom made me aware of the need for volunteers at this particular abortion center. God had answered
my prayer in such a clear way I didn't hesitate as the first group from our
church began attending every Tuesday.
I am continually compelled to go every week
realizing the need that is before us as Christians and citizens here on earth.
Life is precious and fearfully and wonderfully made by God which should compel
us to continue in the fight for truth in a dying world. We are called by God to
build His kingdom. What are we doing for eternity? What will we say on that
final day? That's why I have chosen to be a part of cities4life sidewalk ministry. I want to make a difference for
eternity and have a life of purpose for Christ. Reaching out to the lost is my desire.

What a Fabulous young man and a Powerful Testimony!
